Last Wednesday, Apple introduced the “coolest device on the planet”, the iPad. After months and months of speculations, Steven Jobs, one of the founders of Apple, presented the iPad to a crowd of journalists and Apple employees and some business partners. The tablet computer blurs the border line between a laptop and a smart phone. With its 9.5 inch glass touch screen, e-book and news-paper reading, web browsing, playing music and watching videos will be much more comfortable. The device is just a half an inch thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. It comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It is powered with 1 GHz Apple A4 chip. One of the most significant applications for the iPad may be Apple’s own creation, called iBooks, an e-reading program that will connect to Apple’s new online e-bookstore.
Like every other device around us, this amazing gadget too has some flaws. Some of them which can be pointed out quickly are, absence of a camera, non-support for the flash player software, and an alternative to the AT&T data network. As for the news, 3 models of iPad will connect to the internet via local Wi-Fi only. Another 3 models supporting 3G (AT&T network only) will be available later, may be in spring. For e-readers, and book-lovers there are already some cheaper devices in the market, like a Kindle and for all those web-savvy crowd there are budget laptops like the notebooks. If Apple has many advantages to offer with its iPad, then criticizers also have many fallbacks to discuss in regard to this tablet computer. So, only time will say whether iPad can successfully pull the crowd away from these alternatives or not.
With a release date in mid of March for some of the versions of iPad, (costing between 499 to 899 USD), it is definitely another revolutionary inventions of Apple.
