Here comes Adams tablet.. Completely Indian and a tough competitor to iPad

Apple’s iPad was not an original idea and Chinese ExoPC Slate is the first tablet PVC which provided all the features of iPad and much more. This controversy is still not over and Apple is in a legal feud with the Chinese manufacturer company. And guess what!!! There is this new tablet PC, called Adam, which claims that it will make iPad look outdated. And the good news is that, this Adam tablet PC is a product of Notion Ink, Hyderabad, a company formed by 6 IITians and one MBA graduate.

Yes, Adam has already made a buzz in the technology world since its early proto type has been introduced in CES in January this year. And now, the final product minus the custom UI has been showcased in Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

It took Notion Ink people almost 3 years to make this dream come true. And this tablet is the world’s first device which integrates 2 power saving components; Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip and PixelQi Screen.
“The chip provides an edge over the iPad with its ability to play full high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. It can offer the performance of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone,” explains Rohan Shravan, one of the four co-founders from IIT.

Similarly, PixelQi Screen has a dual mode, with one mode operating as a normal LCD screen and the second mode claiming the clarity of texts even in bright sunlight. With the back light off, Notion Ink claims that it can increase battery life between charges by a factor of five. And, the combination of the screen and the processor can enhance the performance greatly.

10 inch screen Adam currently runs on Android 2.1. Indian version of the Adam will not be 3G enabled as the infrastructure is practically nonexistent. Internet browsers that are supported in Adam are Firefox and Google Chrome. And moreover, it has a camera (3MP, autofocus) which the iPad missed. If iPad claims to give the battery support for 10 hours, then Adam will give you 16 hours of battery support and with back light off the time increases to 160 hours!!! It has also got a touch-pad and can be used for multi-tasking. It supports Adobe Flash and It can provide storage with SD card slots. Most of these features are missing in iPad.

Well, the price is still not decided, but it is almost clear that it will be in a tight competition with Apple’s iPad in this area too.

Notion Ink worked with National Institute of Design’s R&D development campus in Bangalore to build a unique touch interface that runs on Google’s Android mobile operating system.

“It will offer everything from apps, books, video, audio, to magazines, newspapers and comics,” says co-founder Rajat Sahni.
So let’s, wait for this wonderful Indian gadget to hit the market.
