64-bit computing boosted by Windows 7.

Microsoft admitted that after the initial slow progress, the 64 bit version of Windows 7 was gradually picking up pace. It also added that it might be in a matter of time that more users move to the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Operating System.

According to some figures released by Microsoft, around 46% of PCs all over the world are using 64 bit version of Windows 7, which is a much greater number in comparison to 11%, which is the percentage of PCs over the world using 64 bit version of Windows Vista Operating System

Intel & Advanced Micro Devices had introduced 64 bit x86 chips long time back for client PCs, but its adoption properly was slow.

Some of the advantages of 64 bit computing on Windows 7, as told by Intel are:

  • More addressable memory.
  • Security benefits.

But according to Intel, it has faced many challenges regarding Windows 7, when it migrated to it from Windows  XP. Some of them are:

  • Application compatibility.
  • Lack of system readiness.
  • Privacy control issues.

Though, these challenges are necessary, according to Intel, as it helps to prepare the company to meet future computing needs.
