It’s been over a month since the new Indian rupee symbol designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, has been approved by the cabinet. The Indian currency, backed by an over-trillion dollar economy finally made its presence felt on the international scene. The unique symbol — a blend of the Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman ‘R’ — joining elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in have its distinct identity.
Now if one must use it for a purpose, must he use the symbol in place of an Rs. Foradian Technologies has come up with a nice trick to enable you to type the symbol from your key board.
Just follow the simple steps.
Steps
- Download the zip file Rupee font installer.rar version 3 (or you can go for the older version 2).
- Extract the files. (You will need winrar or winzip installed in your PC to extract the files)
- Double click on the Rupee_Font_Installer.exe
- Click on “Install” button and the font is installed
- Your job is done
- To use it just select the rupee foradian font from the font drop down and use the ~ button (above the tab button and on the left of numerical 1 button)
A point here is, if you are using the symbol in some document and sending it over to somebody who does not have this font installed, may not see the symbol. so spread the word.

Put currency symbol as ” ` ” click ok
Open excel
go to format cell (Ctrl + 1 command)
click to Number tab ——- > select currency as ” ` ” & ok it
select fonts as Rupee_Foradian.ttf.
