NETRA – For Your Eyes!

August 30, 2010 by: 0

The Near-Eye Tool for Refractive Assessment or NETRA is a little device that can be clipped on to a phone with the requisite software installed on it. The device uses:

  • Array of lens made up of plastic.
  • Phone display to run tests.
  • Can be run with high resolution cell phone display.

It runs the tests on a phone display unit and gives a prescription, all this happening in less than 2 minutes. The mass production of the device would price it at $2 per piece.

It is useful in diagnosis of:

  • Myopia,
  • Hypermetropia,
  • Astigmatism.

It has been developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology media lab and was led by Ramesh Raskar at the Camera Culture Lab.
