Change Folder Display in Windows XP and Windows 7

With Windows xp, you now have the freedom to customize the nature of Windows Explorer to display documents, images, music folders etc. This proved to be a milestone when related to the developments over the old versions as it offers you to see the Meta data of files within no time without taking the help of any other software.

If you wish to customize the type of view of the folders you should do the following:

  • The first step is to open Windows Explorer and browse through a folder which contains files in it. Note that this process won’t work with drives so check out that the folder is not inside a root drive.

  • Right-click the folder in the tree, select its Properties, and choose the Customize tab. You can also Or right-click an empty area of the folder background and select Customize This Folder.
  • You can see two options then optimize this folder for: or Use this folder type as a template listbox, you have to select the first entry, General Items, and finally click on OK.

If you choose to opt for other options viz. Documents, Pictures etc. it will display the contents of the folder as such. If you select “music” you can then view contents of the selected folder with album art similar to that in the “My Music” folder.

As far as the videos are concerned it will show the file type, its dimensions, and the duration of the video. You will get to see interesting thumbnails of the images.
