For the naive users, here are some tips and very basic steps which are of not much use to the advanced users.
You might be facing some problems with your Firefox browser viz. it may be loading slowly or it may be freezing when you use large extensions or we you are using multiple tabs. It takes around 500MB of RAM when 16tabs are opened along with many heavy extensions.
Memory hogging occurs when a large number of pages are pages and images are cached for faster browsing. Mozilla Firefox is working on removing this shortcoming and the next version of Firefox would have better memory management. But we have to wait till this problem is sorted out. Till then we can use these easy steps-
STEP 1) CURTAIL THE NUMBER OF EXTENSIONS
Reduce the number of extensions used. Try to remove those extensions which access internet to update information for each site.
STEP 2) JAVA PLUG-INS HAVE TO BE DISABLED
The Java plugins have to be disabled. Go to Tools > Options > Content tab and uncheck Enable Java. As many sites do not use Java it results in wastage of CPU resources for a kind a plugin that is not used.
STEP 3) THE NUMBER OF TABS OPENED SHOULD BE LESS
The number of tabs opened by you should be few, that is at the maximum 10 tabs. IT goes in a manner that the more tabs you open up, more is the memory used by Firefox. For this try experimenting with the number of tabs that are open and which do not slow down the process and get to an optimal number that suits your computer.
By using these steps you are sure to save a decent amount of memory.
