There may be situations in which we require to change the registration details, like name, for a Windows 7 operating system. Such situations arises when we use a previously owned copy of this operating system which was earlier licensed to some other person or organization from which we got it; or more frequently in situations when we get windows 7 pre-installed by the dealer of the system. In either cases the new owner is required to change the details to his own, once he get this copy.
Now how can we do it??
The first step in this process is to identify the previous owner(name)… For this the process is as follows-
Go to start and type “winver” into the “Search programs” and the “Files” box and press enter.
A new window containing all the required information will be displayed. This information includes the details of the operating system like the current version, the windows edition and the name of the person to which the copy is currently licensed to.

Now, the next step is to change this owner’s name to the new one. This task is accomplished by using the registry edit option as follows-
Go to start and type “regedit” into the “Search programs” and the “Files” box and press enter. This displays the registry of Windows 7.
After this, locate the registry at “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\RegisteredOwner” .
Select the “RegisteredOwner” option.

Change the owner’s name to the new owner.

An important thing to be kept in mind is that this process does not alter the Windows 7 user identity. It just allows the owner to take the ownership of the operating system in some way.
