HTC 7 Pro

The HTC 7 Pro us the first Windows 7 smartphone to make its way into the market since the flurry of handsets that followed the original Windows 7 phone’s original release; a flurry that included the HD7, HTC 7 Mozart and LG Optimus 7. It is the first Windows 7 smartphone to features a slide-out keyboard and is very much targeted at the Blackberry business person market.

The HTC 7 Pro is a clever piece of design and its hinged fold-out system is sure to win it fans amongst the general consumer population, as well as the business crowd. HTC have done a great job in keeping the weight of the handset to a relative minimum (especially considering the inclusion of a keyboard) – it comes in at only 185g, and almost fits comfortably into the palm of the hand once folded. Other pleasing hardware additions include the five megapixel camera (although this was trumped by an eight megapixel camera in the Mozart model), built in Wi-Fi, a 1GHz processor and built-in GPS. The screen in of average size and resolution compared to its competitors: 3.6-inch with 480 x 800 pixels.

The interface will be pleasingly familiar to those who have used a Windows 7 phone before, but some may be disappointed by the lack of customisation on offer due to the fact that no third parties are allowed to produce skins for the OS. The menu systems work extremely well with the touchscreen and everything is grouped into a logical order, so that there is no need to spend too much time hunting for the desired app.

The HTC 7 Pro is sure to gain a good following with the list of positive features that it has going for it; these include a long battery life, superb build quality and great image/sound capabilities. Others may find the lack of features such as Flash support or removable storage as a drawback – overall the HTC have succeeded in making a quality handset in the 7 Pro.
