iPhones can now be used to seamlessly run conference calls thanks to a new app from a company called Powwownow. The application runs off the back of the company’s conference call system, which allows users to create teleconferences without any additional charges. Primarily business people use the service yet it is suitable for everyone.
The application itself works well – the company stuck to a simple theme and created a set of menus that is easily navigable. What’s more it is possible to not only join, but also set up conference calls. Essentially, business people on the go can now participate in meetings provided they have an iPhone and cellular service.
This app is part of an emerging trend, which is seeing companies use apps to increase the convenience of their products. Consumers expect services to be easy to use and available across multiple platforms: news sites have jumped on this trend, while social networks and communication tools are clearly doing the same. This is an excellent step, and we can expect to see many more such releases – iPhone apps are almost becoming a necessity for high tech companies.
These applications are also helping to bolster the usefulness of iPhones. By adding a free conference call function this app makes the device that much more useful, and helps attract business customers who might otherwise opt for Blackberries. One of Apple’s chief strengths is their excellent app store, and they would do well to encourage its growth in the coming years. With any luck we can expect many more excellent apps that will allow us to conference call, network socially and do a multitude of other tasks, all from our iPhones.
