Apple Outruns Samsung and Nokia as Top Smartphone Manufacturer

While smartphone manufactures across the globe are always in a race to become the top manufacturer of smartphones and oust their competitors in the process, the reports from market research firms – Study Analytics and IDC have reported that the market has seen a growth of 76.3% since the launch of Q2 in 2010 and Apple and Samsung have been the ones enjoying most of the benefits.

The 2011 Q2 reported that Apple doubled its smartphone sale increasing from 8.4 million to 20.3 million units. Samsung also did great business around the same time and its sales grew up to six times. Unfortunately the sale of Nokia smartphones fell by one–third.

The market shares have surely been re-shuffled and Apple tops the charts with 18.5% of the shares, Samsung comes a close second with 17.5% and Nokia stood third with a 15.2% holding. Also, the report revealed a very interesting finding regarding feature phones, that is, the market has decreased for the first time in the past two years and almost all the manufacturers saw a decrease in their sales. This decline is being attributed as the effect of low cost Android handsets.

As Apple does not manufacture feature phones, Nokia is still ruling the first position with 88.5 million feature and smartphones sold and Samsung retains the second position with 70.2 million units sold overall.
