We all know that Apple is very soon going to launch its next iPhone and will be known as the iPhone 5. Now there is evidence that proves that yet to be launched handset will be a world phone that is, it will support both GSM as well as CDMA bands.
Apple was only manufacturing phones that would support GSM until last year, the reason being that Apple had a tie up only with the GSM based carriers. But this year, it came out with a CDMA version of the iPhone as it announced that it would be supporting Verizon. Even though the GSM and CDMA versions of the handset look the same they are quite distinct and have been built in different places. This does not affect Apple in any way but is sure is a hassle for a customer who wants to switch to another carrier or is travelling to another country where only one of the two carriers is available.

To counter the problem Apple seems to have designed the iPhone so that it supports both CDMA and GSM and it is in use by a few people but is not available for sale to the public as of now. But it is clear that the company doesn’t wish to cell different handsets for different carriers from now on. The new iPhone will have the necessary hardware to support the CDMA as well as the GSM network, so customers can switch to another carrier at their convenience. This new addition will make the iPhone a travel smartphone as it will be able to be used anywhere in the world. The new iPhone is expected to be showcased in the next media event by Apple, which will be held in the first half of September.
