An announcement was made today by Samsung and nVIDIA regarding the Galaxy R smartphone. The announcement confirmed that the handset would be powered by the Tegra 2 dual core processor and would be available in China, North & Eastern Europe, South East & West Asia and Middle East Asia.
The handset has been named Galaxy R and would run on the Android 2.3 version that is Gingerbread. Even though Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the same chipset the Galaxy R would by the first mobile handset to be powered by an nVIDIA processor. The previous models, that is, Galaxy S 4G and the Epic 4G were powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor that is of Samsung itself.

The features of the Samsung Galaxy R are as follows:
- Tegra 2 dual processor.
- 4.19″ WVGA Super Clear LCD touchscreen.
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system.
- 720p HD video capture along with a 1080p Full HD playback (DivX, WMV, MP4, H.264 B/P only).
- Built-in memory of 8GB and support for 32GB Micro SD (expandable memory).
- Size: 125.7 x 66.7 x 9.55 mm.
- Weight: 131 grams.
The handset is already for sale in Sweden and will soon be made available in parts of Asia and Europe. It has not been disclosed as to when the phone will be made available in the US.
