Laptop owners are constantly using the computer while traveling, at home, at work or in a wide range of other applications. This constant moving around often requires a strong battery that can last for a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the constant use also results in a gradually diminishing battery life. While the battery life will eventually start lessening over time, it is possible to extend that life and make it last longer.

Keeping the Battery Cool

Overheating is one of the major causes of shortening the battery life. In fact, it will result in early replacement of the laptop battery if measures are not taken to prevent and minimize battery overheating while using the machine. Fortunately, the methods of cooling the battery are actually easy to implement.

One method of keeping the battery cool is using a cooling pad while the laptop is on a lap. This helps maintain the cool temperature and avoid direct contact with the fabric of clothing that might otherwise result in blocking the cooling fan. It maintains a cooler temperature on the whole laptop.

Anyone using a laptop on a desk should ensure that the desk is clean and dust free. Dust is particularly harmful to the cooling fan within a laptop and can cause overheating. By keeping the desk clean, less dust gets into the laptop to block the cooling fan and thus the laptop is more efficient.

Pause Some Programs

Programs like virus scans and computer defrag are important to the health of the computer, but should not be run while the laptop is running on a battery. These programs will quickly drain the battery. Instead, pause the programs until an outlet is available. Plugging in and recharging while the programs run will not only allow time for the program to complete, it will result in better battery life while away from an outlet.

Dim the Screen

The brightly lit screen is a default setting on many laptops. Unfortunately, this high setting on the screen lighting also drains the battery and gradually shortens the battery life. By changing the setting on the computer to a dimmer lighting, the battery will run longer and the overall life will increase.

Laptop batteries require a little care to prevent early replacement and fast draining while away from an outlet. By keeping the computer cool and taking measures to avoid a drain on the battery while using it, the battery life is extended considerably over time. Keeping a strong battery means that the laptop will remain useful for years to come, especially while spending time on the road.

Tablet computing is one of the biggest technological advancements recently made. Tablets are popular, easy to use, portable, and affordable. They’re like a mini laptop that fits in one hand. Tablets are great for business professionals and people on the go. They are relatively new, however, so only time will tell if their popularity is everlasting. One thing is for sure – as hard as it tries, the tablet computer will never replace the laptop. It lacks the sophistication and versatility of the laptop, and while it is a good substitute in many instances, it will never fully take the place of a laptop. Here are some reasons why the tablet will never replace the laptop.

Durability

For the same reasons that tablets are more portable, they are also less durable. If you want something that will last you a long time and you won’t need to replace anytime soon, a laptop is still the best choice. Tablets are small so they are also weaker. The touch screen of a tablet is very susceptible to damage. It can easily break or crack if dropped or misused, and the fact that you need to touch it all the time increases its wear. If you break the screen on your tablet, you likely can’t fix it and need to replace it altogether. It is harder for you to damage your laptop screen, and if your laptop does break in any way, there is a better chance you can find someone to repair it.

Processing

One of the biggest disadvantages to using a tablet computer is that the processor is much simpler than a laptop. It is fine for running a couple processes at once, but performance and speed will greatly diminish compared to a laptop when you need to do a lot of computing at once. Multi-tasking isn’t quite so easy with a tablet. For this reason alone tablets can never quite replace laptops. They just aren’t practical for people who rely on their computers for complicated endeavors or using a lot of memory and RAM.

Keyboard

The lack of a physical keyboard on a tablet makes typing a little more difficult. Yes, you can use the touch screen or buy an attachment keyboard, but there is nothing like the keyboard of a laptop for your typing needs. It will never be as easy or convenient to type long documents on a tablet as it is on a laptop.

Other Hardware

Tablets are missing an important piece of hardware: a CD drive. Including a CD drive in a tablet would make it heavier and bulkier and, well, more like a laptop. The lack of a CD drive is quite a downside to tablet computing. While there are lots of ways to watch and purchase movies over the Internet, you can’t just pop in a disc and watch one the old fashioned way. If you want to run a program or upload files from a disc on a tablet, you’re out of luck. Also, tablets have fewer ports for things like USB. If you need to connect a lot of things to your computer, a tablet makes it difficult.

The Windows 7 operating system has the capability of detecting the applications which were actually made for the older Windows versions and providing a compatibility fix. If still your application does not work as it should be while using Windows 7 then you can use the inherent settings of the Compatibility Mode for a resolution.

This article describes the various unknown-but-amazing features and abilities of Windows 7 which make older programs work more flawlessly inside itself. It also shows how to find online patches and solutions for applications that Windows 7 states as unsupported. Further, discussions about fine-tuning how several applications are run have also been emphasized upon.

So, this article would solve the problems of all those Windows 7 users who require an access to older applications.

Expectantly running the program in any prior version of Windows will help solve the problems you’re experiencing. Each program is different so the troubleshooting steps will vary.

Most programs written for Vista should work in Windows 7.

How to Use the Program Compatibility Mode in Windows 7:

Isn’t it very frustrating when you want to mount a driver or software on Windows 7 but it is unfortunately not compatible with this OS? In such cases you can use the Program Compatibility Assistant and troubleshoot the compatibility issues so that the programs install effectively.

Program Compatibility Assistant:

The Program Compatibility is a mode that lets you run programs that were written for the earlier versions of Windows. The Program Compatibility Assistant exposes the compatibility issues and permits you to reinstall using the suggested settings.

For e.g. can you get the following error when you are trying to install a music interface device driver for home recording-

Check the simple video tutorials below to effective use the Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Once you get down to the jobs that vary as listening to music, watching videos, opening documents that are in various formats, how do we proceed? We begin with the tedious job of installing many standalone applications. But imagine a single application capable enough to perform all such jobs. That is where Free Opener comes into existence. It supports wide variety of applications ranging from supporting image and document formats to audio as well as video. Once you are done with installing it, you no longer are in requirement of a separate PDF viewer or else multimedia player even, to add on you need not install applications for opening compressed files.

It is capable of supporting more than 80 formats that include : PDF, DOC,AVI, DOCX, ZIP, JAR, XML, HTML, SWF, 7Z, PHP, XLSX,MKV, FLV, XLS, JPEG, TXT, PSD, WMV, CR2, CRW, GIF, MSG, NEF, TIFF, JPG, MOV, MP4, LOG, PNG, CS, INI, MPEG, MPG, CSS, MP3, CFG, HTM, BMP, JS, XLSM, WA, ICO, REG, DNG, ARW, MID, ORF, RAF, PEF, RESX, CF2, ERF, MEF, MRW, SR2 and X3F.

Whichever file you intend to open just select it and you will be presented options on the main interface, For instance if you want a video to be played, you will be presented with options at the bottom of the interface as expected of a normal multimedia player. Since it plays videos from many video formats there is no need of a special FLV or a MOV player.

With edit -> preferences you also find yourself in a position to customize it with a number of available skins, the default skin however is Office Blue.

In case you are worried about longer life of your laptop then here are a few things that you can do to ensure its long life.

Take care while plugging in the DC Jack

Be gentle while doing so, because if you are not, you may simply end up cracking the joints that are soldered to the motherboard. Also, go in for a good quality charger, because a loose charger is sure to harm your system.

Use compressed air to clean the cooling system

Use a bottle of compressed air and clean out the dust that has accumulated on the fan of your laptop on a regular basis. In case you are unable to open the case of the heat sink call in the manufacturer and get help.

Refrain from using your laptop in bed

When the laptop is placed on any soft surface, say a bed, pillow or even the sofa, the ventilation pores get blocked and the air can’t be sucked in for cooling the system. The table is the best place for your laptop.

A Cooling Pad is a good investment

Try your best to avoid over heating and the best possible solution for this is a Cooling Pad, which would ensure that a favourable temperature is maintained for the laptop at all times.

Use CCleaner

Download CCleaner from the internet. The CCleaner cleans and rids the computer of all the temporary files and cookies that get collected and stored in the computer while you work on the internet.

Avoid bringing any liquids in contact with your laptop

Make sure that there is no liquid in the vicinity when you are working on your laptop not just that, avoid eating while working on your system too. Accidents can occur anytime and anywhere.

Manage your battery life

The battery of the laptop must be drained occasionally and then recharge it. Never keep the laptop in full charge at all times as this just messes with the battery’s life.

An Anti-Virus software is a must

There are scores of anti virus software on the internet. You can download one that is best suited for your needs and run it on your computer.

Download Windows Updates

There must be regular updating of your Windows. Microsoft releases these updates once in a week and in case you have the Windows 7, then updating is really easy as you have to click on “Start” and then key in “Windows Update”. Click on the first option that appears on the screen and you will reach the Windows updater.

Clean your screen regularly.

For this, you require a pair of tissues, one daubed in water and the other dry. First wipe the screen with the wet tissue and follow it up with the dry one, till the screen is bone dry.

The new feature of Facebook, that is the Timeline would make it difficult for you to hide previous posts which you now don’t want others to read and view. Once the timeline appears, it will be very easy for your friends to search each and every post that you have ever made on the site.

Don’t get panicky as there are a couple of ways to your previous posts. This should be done within five days as the Timeline will go live after that as all the posts will become visible after that. Following are the ways to go about it.

Make all Posts Friends Only

You can do so by going to your Privacy settings and then:

Click on the “Limit the Audience for past posts”.

Click on this tab and all your post will be visible only to friends from then on.

The only problem with this setting is that, in case you have tagged anyone is a previous post, then the person and his/her friends will be able to view the post.

Limit Others Posts on your Timeline

This is another convenient way to hide previous posts and limit the viewership by others. For this you need to go to the Privacy Settings Page and then:

Click on the “Edit Settings” tab, followed by “How to Connect”.

Choose the “Custom” option from the list that is displayed

Then click on the “Hide this from” option that appears. Over here you can give a list of the people from whom you wish to hide your previous posts.

Click on “Save Changes” after doing so.

Manually edit each post

This is a tedious task and in case your account is more than a year old, this is practically impossible. The Timeline segregates posts year wise and then breaks down into months, so you can simply hover a particular month and hide a post of that month, by changing its settings.

And to make sure what your profile looks like to others, there is the “View Profile as” option, so you will know exactly you’re your profile looks like to others.

People like to watch online video. It’s spectacular show and a good way to describe something easily. Short demo video or a screencast attracts users to a blog. The blog seems to be more interactive and less static. If you keep your blog on a public domain like Blogger, you can embed a Youtube video code. But for self-hosted blog owners there are various tools to embed a video. One of them is a Free Video Converter by Freemake. It converts video into web-friendly FLV or SWF file format and automatically generates video player code. So you need to place the code and upload video to your server. Nothing else to do. Thus, all your blog fans will enjoy authentic video immediately.

Video embedding process looks quite simple and can be divided into following stages:

Download and install Video Converter. Launch the program. Upload your video by clicking “Video” button.

Select FLV or SWF format as an output file format. Both SWF and FLV file types are considered to be standard online video formats.

Mark “Embed video to my web page” checkbox and Click “Convert” button. Thus, the video conversion will result in video file with player code.
Play video and view the player style for your blog. Make the audio and video quality are what you want. Otherwise get back to previous step and tune up conversion settings.
Upload FLV video file to server. Copy the code and past it to your blog editor.

You must have already witness the new face of Facebook and the latest features. There has been a mixed opinion on the new Facebook UI, some loved it, some found it irritating and messy. But we can’t deny the fact that with this new change in Facebook is really giving G+ a tough competition. We already have told you how to change the new Facebook’s UI and today we are coming up with some interesting thing for everyone. I will not say that this particular thing is only for the developers but it is also for other people- until they love to do cheeky experiments with their accounts.

Facebook has changed the user interface and in an attempt to make it better it has made it more complicated. I noticed this change when I logged onto Facebook today morning to check my profile. The look had totally changed and they had made it all so unrecognizable. The most intriguing addition was the small box on the top right hand side corner which just doesn’t go away at all. I was thinking if the notifications and news page was actually meant for informing people about who commented on what and liked which picture, then what was the need for that additional box. Another change was the omission of the ‘Profile’ and ‘Find Friends’ buttons. Both these buttons were replaced by my picture and name prominently displayed there.

Earlier, you could go and edit friends by just going to ‘Account’ and clicking onto the ‘Edit Friends’ button but this time I didn’t find any such button. Where that button has been placed is still a mystery for me.

Well, the new look wasn’t welcomed so easily by my friends and when I saw that there were so many complaints regarding the new UI, I decided that something needs to be done. I asked one friend of mine for help and he being a computer wizard came up with a solution within a short span of time. He said that changing the language back to English(UK) will resolve the problem. I did exactly as he told and there it was- my old and beloved Facebook.

Steps To Change Facebook’s New Look:

1. Go To “Home“.

2. Go To “Account Settings“.

3. Change the language from English (US) to English (UK) and “Save Changes“.

4. Viola!! Here it is!! Your Old Facebook.

Are you upset because Facebook has been blocked by the organization where you spent most part of your day working/studying. Well no worries, as you can now update your Facebook status via email. That is not all, you can also upload pictures and videos on your Facebook account. The only thing that needs to be borne in mind is that the pictures that you upload will be placed in the “Mobile Uploads” album.

First log into your Facebook profile.

After this go to http://www.facebook.com/mobile/ from the same browser.

The page that appears is the Facebook Mobile Page and there will be an option that is the “Upload via Email”, below which there is an email address. This email address is secret and only for your page. It must not be shared with anyone.

Simply copy this email id and save it in your email contacts. Once this is done, all you need to do is login to your email and send your status update to that email id that you had stored in your contacts. The message will get updated as your status on your Facebook profile.
